We will always make treatment recommendations with the best interest of patients in mind.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are also known as caps, usually made of a material similar to porcelain, fitted, and cemented on a tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal or in cases where little healthy and strong tooth structure following decay or traumatic breakage remains. The materials used now are more aesthetic and biocompatible than many of the materials used in the past. We will always make treatment recommendations with the best interest of patients in mind.
Implants are biocompatible structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by natural teeth but in cases where teeth have been lost prematurely for any number of reasons. Dental implants are anchored to the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or as anchors for permanent bridges. In some cases, implants can be even used to attach dentures which significantly improves function when compared to traditional dentures. The reliability and success rates of dental implants are very high, and the options for treatment have been a fantastic alternative for many patients in the past couple of decades. We work with the best local specialists and surgeons and will match patients up with the best provider for their implant-related treatment needs on the surgical side on an individual basis.
Whitening procedures have effectively restored the smile of people with stained, dull, or discolored teeth. Diet, aging, and general wear-and-tear can discolor or darken otherwise healthy tooth structure. In addition to metal-free fillings and crowns, we offer whitening options to rejuvenate smiles in a safe and simple manner.
Invisalign's® nearly invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners will give you the beautiful straight teeth you've always wanted without the metal brackets and wires of traditional orthdontic treatment. And best of all, almost no one can tell you're wearing them. We are Invisalign® certified and would be happy to discuss whether it is a good option for any patients who might be interested. Not all cases are appropriately treated with Invisalign® - or may be appropriately treated with Invisalign® but under the care of an orthodontist instead of us. We will always make treatment recommendations with the best interest of patients in mind.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are needed in the case of larger or deeper cavities or if there has been other trauma to the nerve of a tooth (called the dental pulp). We take careful measures to avoid a root canal whenever possible (including the use of temporary fillings which may aid a tooth to heal itself in some cases). However, once the need for a root canal has been established or strongly suspected, we work with some of the best local endodontists (root canal specialist) to assure that our patients are receiving the highest level of care possible. Our dedicated team members will also aid in scheduling initial appointments for our patients as needed or requested with our trusted specialists in these cases. Many teeth which have had a root canal completed are followed up by crowns (done in our office) or replacement fillings to finish and protect the treatment properly. The best way to avoid root canals is to treat cavities and replace old fillings and crowns in a timely manner before the dental pulp is involved. We will gladly match our patients with the best choice of endodontists on an individual basis as needed, and our endodontic specialists share our sincerity and thoroughness in regards to the best care possible.
Periodontal health is very important for oral functions like normal chewing and smiling, but recent studies have discovered strong links to systemic health and chronic health problems. Regular cleanings and proper daily home care are the best ways to maintain optimal health. The hygienists are SFD will provide high levels of care for teeth and gums, and additional visits yearly may be helpful for patients with certain histories and tendencies. If the health of the gums and bone surrounding teeth has deteriorated past a certain level, we work with excellent local periodontists to do everything possible to maintain our patients' dental health and to improve chances of keeping all their teeth for a lifetime. Our periodontists share our sincerity and thoroughness in regards to delivering the best care possible, and we will match patients with the best options for them individually.
We always endeavor to minimize the risk of emergency treatment for our patients. Regular checkups and complying with treatment recommendations in a timely manner are the best strategies to minimize risk of emergencies, but dental emergencies do arise despite best laid plans. Dental emergencies can arise for any number of reasons, and the best option is to contact our office at the first sign of discomfort or obvious problem. Depending on the source or reason, the solutions may be as simple as a filling or crown to immediate extractions or root canals in the worst case scenarios. If needed, our specialists network (oral surgeons and endodontists) is very supportive in managing emergencies within 24-48 hours once they have been informed by the Southpoint Family Dentistry about what is the exact nature of the problem.
